The ZD-182 Soldering Iron Tip Cleaner uses photoelectric sensing to start automatically when a soldering tip is inserted and enter standby mode when the tip is removed.

Brass Media Versus Wet Sponge
The ZD-182 uses a soft silicone brush and copper-wire cleaning media. It does not use brass cleaning media or a wet sponge.
Routine Cleaning
For regular cleaning and lightly oxidized tips, insert the soldering tip into the soft silicone-brush inlet. The cleaner activates automatically and collects the removed tin residue.
For more heavily oxidized tips, use the copper-wire cleaning mode. Remove the soldering tip after cleaning, and the unit enters standby mode.
